Registry of Deeds

Information on the Registry of Deeds including accessing our records and heritage events.

The primary function of the Registry of Deeds system since its establishment in 1708 is to provide a system of recording the existence of deeds and conveyances affecting unregistered property.  Unregistered property is property where the title is not yet registered in the Land Registry and so the Registry of Deeds system applies.

A deed recorded in the Registry of Deeds has priority over an unrecorded deed. Priority is filed in order of the Registration Serial Number allocated on the date of lodgement.

We also provide other services such as copying, searching, heritage events and access to records for legal and historical research purposes.
