Today (01 March 2023), the Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning, Kieran O’Donnell, officially launched the new state agency Tailte Éireann brought about by the merger of the Property Registration Authority, the Valuation Office, and Ordnance Survey Ireland.
All the functions currently carried out by the Property Registration Authority, the Commissioner of Valuation, the Boundary Surveyor, and Ordnance Survey Ireland will now be performed by Tailte Éireann.
Tailte Éireann will provide a comprehensive and secure property title registration system, a professional State valuation service and an authoritative national mapping and surveying infrastructure. As an integrated land and property service, Tailte Eireann will help to support the planning process and professionals; one central body for information and data to assist planning and land information.
Speaking at the launch event in the Distillers Building, the new Tailte Éireann HQ under construction in Smithfield Square, Minister Kieran O’Donnell said:
"I am pleased to launch Tailte Éireann today. The new agency is the primary national source of property information and geospatial data and will be a leader in developing and delivering land information services. These functions are essential for underpinning the state's economy in many areas, including property, planning, agriculture, local government, the environment, and construction.”
Liz Pope, Interim Chief Executive of Tailte Éireann, said:
“I want to express my gratitude to all of our colleagues from the three merged organisations for their ongoing work and commitment, especially throughout the merger process. I also thank our colleagues from the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage for their assistance in establishing Tailte Éireann. We look forward to working collaboratively with all our stakeholders in developing integrated land and property services in Ireland.”
